Sunset Time Lapse

This weekend we welcomed 30 guests for a “Discernment” retreat.  Men and women of all ages and different backgrounds were here to discern God’s will in their lives.  I was co-leader of the retreat along with Karen Ceckowski, who works in our Abbey Guest Center.  I have to admit that I was a little nervous since this was my first time leading a retreat.  I have worked together with Karen before on Photography retreats, but I had two conferences to give this weekend on discernment.

Several of our guests also wanted to meet privately for spiritual direction, so I tried to be available throughout the weekend for them.  We had several college students in attendance from Iowa State and Northwest Missouri State.  Additionally, two men attended who are in the application process for entrance into the monastery!  God has a plan for each of us, but it is important to cultivate a relationship with Christ and seek the deepest desires of our heart.

Yesterday evening before Vespers, I put my camera outside to capture the sunset.  My only regret was not getting it out there sooner! The time lapse, though brief, turned out to be stunning. The wind was blowing very strongly and I would have continued the time lapse longer, but the wind was blowing so hard that it knocked the tripod and camera over into the grass.  We have beautiful sunrises and sunsets in northwest Missouri, and I am really enjoying capturing these on video.
