Health and wellness central focus of Abbey Trails 2017 at Conception Abbey

Runners begin the 5K Run at Abbey Trails 2017.Conception, Mo. – 163 participants came to the 22nd Abbey Trails 5K Run/2-Mile Walk and Health Fair on Saturday, May 6 to run with the monks of Conception Abbey and support health and wellness in the local community. This year’s event drew 72 for the 5K Run and 91 for the 2-Mile Walk.

Seth Arnold of Conception, Mo. was the overall winner in the men’s category, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 19:28.87.

Laura Foley of Columbia, Mo. was the overall winner in the women’s category finishing the 5-kilometer course in 25:53.96.

The age-group 1st place winners in the men’s 5K Run were: Adam Klassen (0-13); Trey Farnan (14-19); John Paul Hartnedy (20-29); Fr. Paul Sheller, OSB (30-39); Brian Shriley (40-49); Steven Klassen (50-59); Jim Grace (60-69); and Larry Davison (70+).

The age-group 1st place winners in the women’s 5K Run were:  Hope Smith (0-13); Bailey Farnan (14-19); Stacy Allen (20-29); Risa Ditmore (30-39); Brandi Farnan (40-49); Cindi Shaw (50-59); Rosemary Overstreet (60-69); and Nola Zeltwanger (70+).

HyVee of Maryville, Mo. was the winner of the Corporate Challenge in the 5K Run taking home the traveling trophy.

In the two-mile walk, participants estimated their completion time before the event and winners were determined by accuracy.

The age-group 1st place winners in the men’s 2-mile walk were: Joel Brady (0-13), Sam Hustor (14-19); Jeremiah Bledsoe (20-29); Joseph Overstreet (30-39); Tom Spire (50-59); Stephen Seufert (60-69); and Bill Marcotte (70+).

The age-group 1st place winners in the women’s 2-mile walk were: Isabelle Braddy (0-13); Stephanie O’Brien (14-19); Jane Woodside (20-29); Veronica Braddy (30-39); Amy Garrett (40-49); Tam Meyer (50-59); Jane Walter (60-69); and Sharon Marcotte (70+).

Nodaway Valley Bank of Maryville, Mo. was the winner of the Corporate Challenge for the 2-Mile Walk and Most Participants, taking home both traveling trophies.

The proceeds from Abbey Trails are used to promote healthy lifestyles among the monks, and seminarians of Conception Abbey and Conception Seminary College and in the surrounding communities. Since we are physical, intellectual, and spiritual beings, Conception Abbey acknowledges exercise as an important factor in maintaining a balanced and healthy life. One of the ways we do that is through our annual Abbey Trails event.
