Monastic Vocations

Be sure to check out our new "Ask a Monk" videos, where monks respond to a variety of questions.  You can find the videos here:  Ask a Monk

Pope Francis has declared 2015 to be the Year of Consecrated Life!  The monks of Conception Abbey welcome this year with great joy, hoping that it is a time of witness and renewal for the Church and world.

If you are looking to explore a possible monastic vocation there are a variety of questions that are sure to surface as you start your search. These questions might include the most basic, What are monks?, to very practical questions like, How do I begin the process of applying?

In any exploration of the monastic vocation the first task is to pray. A monk’s life is a life of prayer and it is only through prayer that a person will discern the call to monastic life.  You may also be interested in attend our Monastic Experience weekend retreat, for men between the ages of 18-35 who are discerning their vocation.  Our scheduled weekend is March 20-22, 2015.

We invite you to explore further our life as Benedictine Monks of Conception Abbey. Follow the links below to hear from the Abbot about monastic spirituality, links about our history and spirituality, explore our daily schedule of prayer and work, and find out how to begin that journey.  Other useful resources include our monastery blog, Listen, my Son and Conception Abbey's Facebook page.

Please enjoy these brief videos, which responds to the question, "What is a monk?" and "What is the greatest blessing of monastic life?"

As Abbey Vocation Director, I want to assist you in discerning God's will in your life.  Please contact me if you would like to learn more about monastic life at Conception Abbey.
