Abbot Gregory Polan and Dr. Taylor Barnes, provost of Northwest Missouri State University, shovel dirt around a tree planted during a ceremony October 11. The tree was planted on the NWMSU campus in memory of Father Philip Schuster and Brother Damian Larson, who were killed in a shooting at the abbey June 10. NWMSU is the only state college campus that has an arboretum. More than 50 people attended the tree-planting. he university donated the oak sapling and presented Abbot Gregory with another one, which was planted on the abbey grounds.
