Rev. Vincent Bertrand (PT82-82), sacramental minister for Sacred Heart parish, Mountain Grove, and St. Michael Mission, Cabool. He also serves as adjutant judicial vicar in the diocese.

Msgr. Mark Ernstmann (C44-47) is retiring.

Lydia Westerman Groner, mother of Rev. John W. Groner (C63-67;T67-71), died July 21, in Jefferson City, Mo.

Judith Heese, wife of Bernard Heese (C45-49;T49-53), died Aug. 8 in Denver, Colo.

Rev. James N. Hoagland (C52-53; T53-57) died March 6, 2004, in Wichita, Kan.

Stanley Issinghoff (C46-50) died April 8, 2004.

Msgr. James K. Lafferty (T50-54) died Sept. 21, in Carroll, Iowa.

Hector Lopez (C65-69,T69-71) died Sept. 22, in Santa Ana, Calif.

Nicholas Nittler (H556-56;C58-63), former monk of Conception and Mt. Michael, died July 28, in Omaha, Neb.

William J. O'Brien (H23-26) died June 14, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Larry Pinkerton, father of Rev. Samuel J. Pinkerton (C89-91), died June 29, in Kingman, Kan.

Richard J. Probst (C64-68) died Sept. 8, in Louisville, Colo.

Lawrence Probstfield, brother of Rev. Edgar Probstfield, O.S.B. (H41-44, C44-49, T49-53), and Rev. Regis Probstfield, O.S.B. (H45-49, C49-54, T54-57), died Sept. 14 in Verona, Mo.

Dr. John P. Scheuren (H50-52) died June 23, in South Dakota.

Donald Scheibeler (C54-59; T59-60), former monk of Conception Abbey, died Sept. 25.

Rev. Mr. Richard W. Snooks (S33) died in September in St. Joseph, Mo.

Robert L. Warinner (H39-41) died in April.

George J. Winkelman (H34-37) died Jan. 29 in St. Louis, Mo.

VARIA

Jerome L. Buhman (C82-86) was ordained permanent deacon July 23 in Madison, Wis.

The College Class of 1994 had a weekend reunion Jun 25-27 on campus. Those attending were: Chris Korte, his wife Katie and daughter Zoe, Steve VanDee, Rev. David Veit, Rev. José Chávez, Mike Mullen, Will Baltrush, Kris Fankhouser, Vincent Hoang, Steve Arnold, his wife Christie, and children Sam and Isabella, David Bange and wife Julie and daughter Hannah, and Tony Meister.

Rev. Leo Buhman (H37-40; C40-42), Rev. Kenneth Criqui (T59-63), Msgr. Victor Moser (H35-39; C39-41), Rev. Dale Reiff (C60-63), Rev. Edward Weisenburger (C79-83) and Rev. Anthony Pick took part in this summer's priest retreat in July. Rev. Wayne Schlautman (C57-61) and Rev. Mark Tomasiewicz (C83-87) made private retreats in August.

Michael Carrigan (C61-62), who worked for many years with the
Smithsonian Museum and also with the Library of Congress, has started a new business "Sacred Spaces" which specializes in church interiors and liturgical design. He and his wife Lisa live in Alexandria, Virginia.

Karen Ceckowski (C2004), program director of Conception's Abbey Center for Prayer and Ministry, made her profession of vows as a member of the "Institute of the Heart of Jesus," a secular institute of which CSC spiritual director Rev. William Whelan (C48-52; T54-56), and Rev. John Lorenz (C46-50), from Des Moines, are also members.

Bro. Timothy (Mick) Combs, O.P. (C2001-03), made his first profession of vows as a Dominican on Aug. 15, in Denver. He has moved to St. Louis for further studies.

Rev. Joel Derks, OSB (C55-60; T60-64) attended the month-long Monastic Renewal Experience during April, at the abbey of Sant' Anselmo in Rome. The program included classes on ecumenism, monastic life and theology as well as pilgrimages to Monte Cassino, Nursia, Subiaco and Assisi.

Most Reverend George Fitzsimmons (T56-61), Bishop of Salina, marked his 20th anniversary as bishop at a diocesan celebration in July.

David Good (PT88-90) and his wife Kathy welcomed their second son, Jeremiah David, last February. David is in his eleventh year as chair of the theology department at Holy Family High School. He also coaches the track team's distance runners.

Rev. Thomas Hoisington (C87-90) will teach a course on Catholic doctrine in this year's Religious Studies Program at the Spiritual Life Center in Wichita, Kan. Rev. Jarrod Lies (C93-97) will teach a course on the sacraments.

Daniel Legerski (C86-89) completed a doctorate in clinical psychology in 2001 at the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology in Minneapolis. He is currently working at a community mental health center in Owatonna, Minn. He was also awarded a contract with the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program for working in a underserved area.

John Krejci (C55-59) and his wife Jean, were recently featured in the Call to Action News for their long involvement in peace and justice activities. He is a member of Nebraskans for Peace (past president and board member); the U.N. association of Lincoln; Nebraskans against the Death Penalty, and other groups. He and Jean live in Lincoln.

Rev. Thomas Ludwig (C80-83), pastor at St. Mary parish in St. Joseph, Mo., was deployed for five weeks in Qatar with the Missouri Air National Guard's 139th Airlift Wing for whom he is chaplain.

Patrick Morgan (C89-93) has completed his doctoral studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The title of his dissertation is "Soybean's Future: Photosynthesis, Sucrose Transport and Dry Mass Accumulation and Yield in a Changing Atmosphere." His study examined the effect of rising ground-level ozone and carbon dioxide on field-grown soybeans. He accepted a position with the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service Air Quality Unit in Raleigh, N.C. He is also involved with projects with the University of North Carolina and N.C. State.

Rev. Walter Phillips (H46-47; C47-52;T52-56), retired priest of the Diocese of Grand Island, was recently featured in an article in the West Nebraska Register. "Have stole will travel," has become his motto. He regularly fills in for priests throughout the diocese. He has also worked regularly with the Marriage Encounter program. He recently extended his services on the Infinity, a cruise ship of the Celebrity Cruise line. He served as chaplain on a 26-day cruise that took him from Florida, to Aruba, through the Panama Canal, up the west coast of Mexico, to San Diego and then to Hawaii.

Rev. Chuck Tobin (T64-68) led a day of recollection for the seminary in September.

Bro. Simon Dao, CMC (C96-98) and Bro. Paul Tai Tran, CMC (C95-99) ordained transitional deacons, Nov. 23 in Carthage, Mo.
