Faculty Footnotes

• Conception Seminary College hosted a Vatican-appointed team April 2-7 as part of the Apostolic Visitation of all U.S. seminaries this year. The team consisted of Archbishop John Myers of Newark, N.J., Bishop Frederick Campbell of Columbus, Ohio, Dominican Father Kurt Pritzl of The Catholic University of America, Jesuit Father Richard Hermes of New Orleans, Father James Steffes, rector of Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona, Minn., and Sister Mary Louise Brink, SC, of the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, N.Y., who served as Resource Person.

FATHER BENEDICT NEENAN, president-rector, was the chaplain for a pilgrimage to the Marian shrine at Medjugorge, Croatia, April 27-May 5.

• Seminary professor FATHER DAN MERZ visited Rome March 4-11 to consult with the Pontifical Institute of Liturgy and his advisor regarding his doctorate. On March 18 Father Merz delivered talks on the Eucharist to lay ministers of St. Peter parish in Jefferson City, Mo. In January he served as spiritual director for a Teens Encounter Christ retreat, also in Jefferson City, and June 9-11 he will serve on an Engaged Encounter weekend in Moberly, Mo.

DR. CHRISTOPHER ANADALE presented a panel discussion on John Paul II’s Fides et Ratio. The program featured FATHER ISAAC TRUE, BROTHER ELIAS ZACZKIEWICZ, and FATHER PATRICK CAVEGLIA. Discussion focused on the role of philosophy in theological reflection and how the Pope presents the role of human reason with the gift of faith.

• On March 22, Father Patrick presented a talk at Cathedral parish in St. Joseph on “Using the Bible in Moral Decision-Making.”

BROTHER THOMAS SULLIVAN gave two Lenten talks and a meditation on the Passion March 24 at the Basilica of St. John in Des Moines, Iowa. The basilica is served by the monks of Saint Gabriel Benedictine Priory whose prior is alumnus FATHER AQUINAS NICHOLS. Between March 24-30, Brother Thomas conducted the canonical visitation of Mount Michael Abbey in Elkhorn, Neb.
