DEATHS

Theresa Ahrens, sister of Brother Mark Kosiba, O.S.B, died April 8 in Columbus, Neb.

J. Marvin Bowles (C50-54) died recently in Phoenix, Ariz.

Juanna Hernandez, mother of John Hernandez (C66-71; T71) and Brother Justin Hernandez, O.S.B. (C70-75), died Feb. 12 in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Honorable Robert A. Meyers, father of Patrick D. Meyers (C78-80) and Seminary Regent Martin M. Meyers, died April 21 in Kansas City.

Gaylin Morgan (C57-58) died Jan. 22 in Jefferson, Wis.

Rev. Richard L. Swolek (H52-55;C55-59) died April 25th in Omaha, Neb.

VARIA

Msgr. Frank Chiodo (C68-72) spoke on Eucharistic adoration at a conference March 16 at Holy Spirit parish, Carroll, Iowa.

Ron Davis (C58-61;T61-63) who lives in New York City, appeared in recent episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. For many years Ron has taken minor parts in soap operas and as an extra in movies and on television.

Rev. Denis Dougherty, O.S.B. (C49-51;T52-56), pastor at St. Joseph parish, Springfield, Mo., was featured in the vocation issue of “The Globe”, newspaper of the Diocese of Sioux City. Father Denis is a native of Sioux City.

Rev. Jose Machado (C87-89) took a short sabbatical at the North American College in Rome from January through April.

Bishop David Ricken (C72-74) is leading a pilgrimage to France in June. Rev. Drew Duncan (C88-89) will accompany the tour, contributing his knowledge of France and the French language.

Rev. Gene F. Smith (C62-66), priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago, ordained in 1984, wrote to share news of his life and works. He earned a master’s degree in English at Notre Dame in 1984 and a doctorate in ministry in 1990 at Mundelein. For 21 years he has taught English, American, and Irish literature in the University of Notre Dame’s Summer Elderhostel Program, and for the last 8 years has conducted “Literary Tour of Ireland.” He is an expert on the writings of James Joyce, and teaches the novel, “Ulysses,” on a regular basis. All of this while serving as a full-time priest in Chicago.
