Among the 837 people packed into the ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel to raise funds for seminarians and Conception Seminary College was a special guest - Benedictine Abbot Christopher Jamison of Worth Abbey in Sussex, England. His reaction to the outpouring of support for the work of his Benedictine brother-monks at Conception? "Wow!"

"I've never been to a seminary auction before," the British abbot said as cowboy-hatted auctioneers from Nigro Brothers worked the crowd around him.

"I'm delighted to see so much enthusiasm and love from the people of Kansas City for their seminarians," he said. "We have auctioneers in England, but not with such a Southern style, and certainly not with Stetson hats."

The event raised $200,000 to support a scholarship endowment for seminarians from both the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph and the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, and for the support of Conception Seminary College.
