Knights of Columbus soccer challenge

Four youths from Maryville, Stanberry and Savannah, ages 10-13, were named district champions of the 2006 Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge and have qualified for the state championship. Conception Seminary College Council 13750 in Conception, Missouri sponsored the district competition at Conception Abbey on Sunday, October 15, 2006.

Ashton Reuter was the 10-year-old girls' champion and Michael Filips was the winner of the 10-year-old boys' division. In the 11 year-old's bracket, Jacob Madden was the boys champion. The 13 year-old champion was Chris Holtman.

Each winner will compete in the state championship to be held on November 5th in Jefferson City, Mo. with an eye toward moving on to the international level.

“This was our first year to hold the Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge here in northwest Missouri and look forward to hosting the competition annually,” reported Gerald Curren, the Grand Knight of Conception Seminary College Council 13750. “We are proud of all of our contestants and wish our champions the best as they compete for the state title,” said Curren.

The contest is based on the accuracy of penalty kicks.
