Alumni Reunion 2007This year’s Alumni Reunion is Friday & Saturday, September 21-22. Dr. John Borelli has agreed to speak on the topic of Islam-Christian relations at this fall’s alumni reunion. From 1976 to 1987, Dr. Borelli directed religious studies at the College of Mount St. Vincent (New York City). From 1987-2003, he was on the staff of the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. In 2004, President John J. DeGioia of Georgetown University named Dr. Borelli his special assistant for interreligious initiatives, and in 2005, the U.S. Jesuit Conference appointed him National Coordinator for Interreligious Dialogue and Relations. For sixteen years, as Associate Director of the USCCB’s Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs, Dr. Borelli managed ongoing dialogues with Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus. He was also responsible for relations with Orthodox Churches and staffed Anglican-Catholic relations. He co-authored (with Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald) Interfaith Dialogue: A Catholic View (2006). A consultor to the Vatican ’s Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue since 1990, Dr. Borelli has participated in several of its projects and meetings. He met with the International Buddhist-Christian Theological Encounter Group from 1988-2004 and now serves on the Board of Directors for the Society for Buddhist-Christian Studies.
