Encounter with God's call draws record number

Encounter With God’s Call, a three-day opportunity for young men (from juniors in high school on up) to stay at Conception Seminary College and learn about the life of a seminarian, drew a record number of young men in November.

The 53 participants far exceeded the event’s average turnout of between 30 and 40. Thirteen chaperones also attended.

“We have never had a fall weekend this large,” said Vince Casper, director of admissions and recruitment. “This is a tremendous sign of hope for priestly vocations in the Midwest.” Casper said participants came from nine different dioceses: Colorado Springs, Jefferson City, Grand Island, Kansas City in Kansas, Kansas City-St. Joseph, Springfield-Cape Girardeau, Springfield, Ill.,Tulsa and Wichita. Kansas City-St. Joseph brought 17 young men, the largest contingent of the weekend. The increase is encouraging, considering that historically, half of the participants go on to enter the seminary, Casper said. “This shows us that more young men are hearing the good news about vocations. I hope the people in the parishes will keep up their good work of praying for vocations.”
