Development director bids farewell to Conception

Tim Stransky, Conception Abbey’s director of development, resigned in July to become vice president of institutional advancement for Mount Marty College, a Benedictine liberal arts college in Yankton, S.D.

Father Allan Stetz will serve as interim director until a replacement is appointed by Abbot Gregory Polan.

Stransky, a former Conception Seminary College student, led the Development Office in completing the $9 million Basilica Renewal Project and launched the $10.25 million “A Living Tradition” campaign. Over a six-year period, Stransky oversaw an eight-fold increase in charitable annual giving, and improved the department’s efficiency through new fund-raising software and by improving internal and external communications, including the expansion of Tower Topics into a quarterly magazine.

“It was wonderful having Tim with us,” Abbot Gregory said. “Having been an alumnus of our seminary college, he knew the spirit of Conception and carried our values to the public with clarity and dedication. We wish him and his family well in his new endeavor.”

Stransky said the decision to leave Conception was a difficult one. “I love the abbey and the people who live and work there with all my heart,” he said. “The monks gave me much to be thankful for, including their trust and friendship, and my co-workers became close friends. I don’t know if I’ll ever again work with a more dedicated group of people.”

Quoting Abbot Gregory, Stransky said, “One does not just happen upon Conception Abbey.”

“That’s true,” he said. “But once you know the way, it's easy to come back.

"That's my plan."
