Campaign leaders stay sharp entering final stage
It has been a year of major accomplishments for the “A Living Tradition”
campaign, but campaign leaders are warning against a letdown.
“While it has been a very successful year,” Abbot Gregory Polan said,
“there remains much work to be done. Thanks to the generosity of more
than 5,000 friends and benefactors, we were able to reach some major
milestones. In July, the Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Okla., rewarded our
successful efforts with a $1 million challenge grant. And construction
of the new Welcome Center, under the leadership of J.E. Dunn Construction,
is moving ahead of schedule.”

The new Welcome Center is beginning to take shape.
The total cost to build the new Welcome Center and renovate St. Maur Hall,
the seminary’s 101-year-old building, is $7.9 million. The campaign needs
to raise an additional $1.4 million or Conception Abbey will have to take
out a loan to cover the difference.
There are also non-building components of the campaign. Beyond construction and
renovation costs, the campaign is still in need of funds for the
seminary endowment, the annual fund which fuels day-to-day operations,
and a fund for special projects and maintenance.
“There are no words to convey our gratitude to the many people who
support the work of Conception Abbey and Conception Seminary College,”
Abbot Gregory said. “There are so many people who continue their regular
contributions to the seminary’s annual appeal and abbey’s Lenten appeal,
yet stretched their giving to make this campaign a success. Without them,
the 130-year tradition of Conception Abbey would be impossible.”
