Junior journalism student joins Tower Topics staff

The staff and Editorial Board of Tower Topics is happy to welcome Abby Simons, a junior journalism student from nearby Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, who will serve as a volunteer staff writer.

Ms. Simons hails from Storm Lake, Iowa, and is currently managing editor of NWMSU’s student newspaper, the Northwest Missourian. In December she will become the paper’s editor in chief. Last year she was named journalist of the year by the Missouri College Media Association.

Ms. Simon’s relationship with Conception stems from her coverage last summer of the June 10 shootings for her paper. She has subsequently written other articles on the abbey, including updates on the “A Living Tradition” campaign.

“I found the monks to be very inspiring people,” she said. “From the moment I met Abbot Gregory, I wanted to know more about this place. I hope that by writing for Tower Topics I can help the monks in their work."
