Msgrs. McCorkle and Wright
to receive honors

Msgr. Louis W. McCorkle and Msgr. Dorick M. Wright will be the recipients of the Alumni Award for Distinguished Service at the annual Conception Seminary College Alumni Reunion Oct. 6-7.

Msgr. McCorkle, who completed his theology studies at Conception in 1953, is an accomplished artist and has chaired the art department at St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Hannibal, Mo., since its opening in 1957. He also has held several pastorates, as well as serving as chaplain at Hannibal’s St. Elizabeth Hospital and as a teacher at McCooey High School in Hannibal.

Msgr. Wright, a native of Belize City, Belize, attended Conception Seminary from 1967 to 1971. Following theology studies at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, he returned to his home town, where he served as associate pastor of St. Joseph parish. He went on to a pastorate at La Inmaculada Church in Orange Walk Town and served as administrator of Holy Redeemer Cathedral in Belize City.

He is currently vicar general of the Diocese of Belize City and Belmopan. He also serves as chaplain at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and for the police department and department of corrections.

The monsignors will receive their awards at the Alumni Reunion Mass on Oct. 6.

Also featured during the reunion will be a keynote address by Father Peter Phan, a noted Asian-American theologian and professor of religion and culture at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. His lecture (“Betwixt and Between: Being an Asian Immigrant in a Multicultural Society: Sociological and Theological Considerations”), which is open and free to the public, will begin at 3 p.m. in St. Maur Hall, room A-200. Currently Father Phan is vice president of the Catholic Theological Society of America. He will succeed to the presidency next year.

For more information on the reunion, call Father Peter Ullrich at (660) 944-2875, or reach him by e-mail at alumni@conception.edu .
