Three monks pursue further studies this Fall
Conception Abbey has been very blessed with the number of young vocations it’s had in recent years. This fall, three of those vocations are beginning further studies outside of Conception. Brother Guerric Letter and Brother Macario Martinez will pursue priestly formation in St. Meinrad’s theology program while Br. Anselm Broom begins graduate studies in philosophy at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Abbot Gregory sits with Brothers Anselm, Guerric, and Macario before they head
off to school.
Before making solemn vows, Br. Guerric went to St. Meinrad’s to visit and received a positive impression. He decided to wait a year after his solemn profession to begin theology and now joins Br. Macario for first theology.
Br. Anselm will pursue a slightly different course this fall. When asked about the selection of CUA’s prestigious philosophy program for further studies, Br. Anselm commented, “Well, I had heard the program had a good reputation. More importantly, so did the Abbot. We decided it would be a good place to apply. I also had the pleasure of meeting the dean, Father Kurt Pritzl, O.P., who was a seminary visitator a few years ago. He did a good job selling the program. Because I will teach many different courses at CSC, I require a program that covers much of the history of philosophy. CUA fits the bill.”
These three young men join six others in formation at Conception, as well as Br. Pachomius Meade who is in his third year of theology at Mt. Angel Abbey in Oregon. He will be ordained a deacon next May.

There are also three visiting monks from other monasteries who are taking classes and receiving formation at Conception: Novice Damian from Christ the King Priory in Schuyler, Neb.; Br. Gabriel Dobson, O.S.B. from Worth Abbey in England; and Br. Gerard Sequeira, O.S.B. from the monastery of Christ in the Desert in Abiquiu, N.M.
