The Printery House News

The Sales and Marketing department (Roy Haas, Director & Peggy Osborn and Bro. Jeremiah Tuttle, OSB) attended several trade shows in recent months: RBTE (Religious Booksellers Trade Exhibit) in St Charles, Ill, in May; CMN exhibit (Catholic Marketing Network) in Cleveland in July, and Roy Haas attended the CBA (Christian Booksellers Association) exhibit also in July.

Earlier this year, The Printery House established an advisory board, which met first in February, and again in August.  Joining Fr. Peter Ullrich OSB, Bro. Michael Marcotte, OSB, and Roy Haas are Fr. Patrick Caveglia, OSB, Gina Valentino of Hemisphere Marketing (Kansas City), Daryl Morgison from Vanguard Products (Kansas City) and Chuck Place, retired business owner and advisor from Albany.  The group was formed to bring new perspectives and fresh ideas to help The Printery House plan its future.  The group has already proven to be helpful in assessing trends and making suggestions for closer study and review of production and sales results.

The Printery House Christmas season is under way.  The first catalogs were mailed in mid-August with many more to follow in the coming months.  Check the information-ad in this issue for more details if you want to receive a catalog or order on-line.

Work never stops in planning and developing new designs.  Designs for 2008 have been chosen and production is already under way.

The Fall 2006 issue of Tower Topics related the story of The Printery House employee, Donnie Dean McCrary and his fight with cancer.  Donnie had volunteered with the Red Cross in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, it was during that time and the weeks following when he learned that he had cancer.  During the following twenty months he faced radiation, chemotherapy and extensive surgery.  In the spring of 2006 friends, neighbors and fellow Red Cross volunteers came to Conception Junction for a benefit to help raise money for his medical bills.  In December of 2006, The Printery House and Abbey employees selected Donnie as the recipient of their Christmas giving project.

Throughout all this time, Donnie faithfully continued to work each day that he was feeling able until May of 2007 when the disease had robbed him of all his strength.  He died at his home in Conception Junction on June 9 at the age of 39, surrounded by his parents and family.

Everyone who came to know him and his battle with cancer was inspired by his courage and by the way he lived during those twenty months.  The Conception community grieves the loss of a skilled pressman and loyal employee of some 18 years.
