Abbey Guest Center NewsAbbey Guest center pastoral associate Karen Ceckowski has been working with the diocesan commission of Kansas City–St. Joseph, concerning the Sacrament of Confirmation. Because the Abbey Guest Center Confirmation retreat program serves more than 1,500 young candidates and parish religious educators each year, Karen’s practical experience is good for the diocesan commission to hear. Karen also became certified as a VIRTUS facilitator this summer. She has provided live training in the VIRTUS “Protecting God’s Call” program for adults and Oblates of the Abbey who volunteer in the Abbey Guest Center. She also recently facilitated the live training for seminarians about to embark on their apostolic program service. Two Oblates of the Abbey have recently taken positions in the Abbey Guest Center. As Receptionist Janet Downing makes reservations for private retreats and group events. She also supervises housekeeping in the guesthouses. Pam Evans has joined the department recently as a full-time housecleaner. Plans call for an additional part-time housecleaner shortly. The housekeeping staff also includes help from the novices in the monastery and five seminarians who do work-study in the Abbey Guest Center. Later this fall, the Abbey Guest center will sponsor a series of retreats and days of recollection. The Abbey Guest Center plans to get that schedule onto the Abbey Website shortly.
