2008-2009Retreats and Days of Reflection at the Abbey Guest Center
Wednesday, October 15, 2008 Fr. Daniel and the Abbey Guest Center staff will help you better appreciate the fruitfulness of life during this day of reflection. We’ll begin with coffee and a conference at 9:00 am. Enjoy time for quiet prayer and reading, Eucharist with the monks and seminarians, and lunch in the guest dining room. A second conference at 2:30 will round out the day. (Suggested donation, including lunch: $20 per person)
Friday and Saturday, November 7-8, 2008 It’s a challenge to live the Christian life oriented to the Kingdom of God, but especially so in a world filled with commercial messages and opportunities to buy, buy, buy! Spend a morning reflecting with Fr. Patrick and Karen Ceckowski on Kingdom values and practical ways to help build the reign of God among us. (Program repeated each morning, 9:00 – noon, at convenient St. Patrick Parish across from St. Pius X High School. Suggested donation, including coffee break: $10 per person)
Friday, November 14 to Sunday, November 16, 2008 We all have much to be thankful for, and Fr. Patrick will suggest some ways in which gratitude can help our prayer and our attitude toward life. Praying the Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours with the monastic community, the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and ample quiet time will be included. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 Join Fr. Patrick and Karen Ceckowski in exploring the theme of waiting as the Church begins the Advent season. We’ll begin with coffee and a conference at 9:00 am, followed by quiet time, the Eucharist with the monks and seminarians, and lunch. Time for reflection will precede a 2:30 conference to conclude the day. (Suggested donation, including lunch: $20 per person)
Friday and Saturday, December 5-6, 2008 Because of the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations, it’s often hard to find interior peace during Advent. Come and reflect with Fr. Patrick and Karen Ceckowski about the meanings of Advent and practical ways of encouraging a deep and abiding Advent peace. (Program repeated both mornings, 9:00 – noon, at convenient St. Patrick Parish across from St. Pius X High School. Suggested donation, including coffee break: $10 per person)
Tuesday, December 30, 2008 to Thursday, January 1, 2009 Join Fr. Kenneth, Fr. Donald, and Karen Ceckowski in pondering the mystery of forgiveness and forgiving as we enter the New Year. Participate in the Liturgy of the Hours and the Eucharist with the monastic community and enjoy ample time for reflection and quiet. A special holy hour on New Year’s Eve will help welcome the New Year. (Suggested donation for lodging, meals and conferences: $120 single, $195 double accommodations)
Friday, February 20 to Sunday, February 22, 2009 Br. Thomas and Fr. Benedict will reflect on aspects of the monastic tradition as an introduction to contemporary ways of living Lent. Ample quiet time, prayer and Eucharist with the monks and seminarians, and the opportunity to celebrate Reconciliation round out the weekend. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 Pause early in Lent and reflect with Fr. Patrick and others from the Abbey Guest Center staff on your Lenten goals and practices. Coffee and a conference at 9:30 begin the day. Quiet time, Eucharist with the monks and seminarians, and lunch follow. A 2:30 pm conference concludes the day. (Suggested donation, including lunch: $20 per person)
Saturday and Sunday, April 4th – 5th, 2009 Spend Palm Sunday weekend with the monks of Conception Abbey and the seminarians of Conception Seminary College. Retreat sessions help bring together the entire RCIA experience. A special session on Reconciliation will help prepare those receiving the sacrament for the first time. A candlelit service on Saturday night will include priests available for celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Sunday morning participants will learn the ancient monastic prayer practice of Lectio Divina as they meditate on the gospel for that Sunday. Then they will join the monastic community in the Palm Sunday procession into the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. (Suggested donation for the weekend:$75 per person)
Wednesday, April 8 to Monday, April 13, 2009 Join the monks and seminarians for the holiest days of the Church year. Moving liturgies, good conferences, and ample silence for reading and prayer mark this sacred time. Begins Wednesday evening, April 8, with supper and concludes after breakfast Monday morning, April 13. (Suggested donations for lodging, meals and conferences: $200 single, $380 double accommodations)
Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 19, 2009 This calligraphy retreat for beginners will explore lettering as a means of lectio divina – that slow and careful pondering on the Word of God which is so central to the Christian life. Abbot Gregory will open the retreat with a reflection on the significance of the Word in our daily lives. Br. Michael will then introduce the retreatants to a simple foundational hand based on a 10th century Carolingian script that was used widely in transcribing the Bible. Emphasis will move from learning the basics of lettering to the use of writing as a means of prayerful reflection. No previous experience required. Calligraphic markers, exemplars and paper will be provided. There will be time celebrate the Eucharist and the Liturgy of the Hours with the monastic community, as well as time for reflection, practice and walks through the beautiful Abbey grounds in springtime. (Suggested donation for lodging, meals, conferences and supplies: $140 single, $215 double accommodations)
Sunday, April 26, 2009 New Catholics, their families and RCIA teams are invited to join the monks and seminarians for the 3rd Sunday of Easter at the Abbey. Celebrate the joyous Eucharist, have lunch and a tour, and enjoy a presentation for the adults while the youth have special supervised activities. The day concludes with a reception, fellowship and a blessing at 4:00 pm. (Suggested donation, including lunch: $15 for adults; children under 12 free)
Wednesday, May 6, 2009 Enjoy a spring day at the Abbey reflecting on the Easter mystery! Coffee and a conference at 9:30 am begin the day. Quiet time, the Eucharist with the monks and seminarians, and lunch follows. A conference at 2:30 concludes the day. Presenters: Karen Ceckowski and Fr. Patrick.
